The goal of the VU REC Support Staff is to assist with the Senior Coordinator of Athletic Recreation Engagement with the development and implementation of opportunities that allow students to express themselves through campus intramural programs, campus recreation, outdoor recreation and adventure programs, and fitness/wellness programs for undergraduate students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual plan for extra-curricular recreational programs, activities, and services (e.g., intramural leagues/tournaments, recreational opportunities, fitness and wellness activities and services, and other student activities)
  • Oversee VU Recs social media and help market VU rec events
  • Oversee Roar Games
  • Oversee and implement Campus Cup for VU Rec and across campus
  • Plan 2 outdoor education events each semester
  • One hour work block each week
  • One hour group VU Rec Meeting each week
  • Be a voice for the student body regarding improving the recreational environment and community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Efficient and reliable while working on multiple projects with multiple deadlines
  • Requires strong oral communication and public speaking skills
  • Comfortable in fast-paced and competitive environments
  • Previous experience with sports and/or recreational activities
  • Team player who is willing to assist others
  • Is a self-starter, able to work independently and take ownership of programs
  • Must be able to lift 45lbs

  • Student Leaders are held to the standards outlined in the Student Code of Conduct in the Student Handbook. However, Student Leaders are also held to higher standards outlined in this job description. It is expected that Student Leaders will understand, accept, and support the assumptions, goals, and objectives of VU REC at Vanguard as outlined in the Catalog and Student Handbook.
  • Student Leaders will abide by the expectations outlined in the training. Some additional responsibilities that may warrant discipline or termination if violated are:
    • Failure to meet the requirements contained in this agreement and referenced documents
    • Failure to support Vanguard and policy
    • Placement on either academic, chapel, or disciplinary probation by the university
    • This list is not exhaustive and may be added to throughout the year at the Director of Athletics' discretion.
  • Student Leaders are expected to be mindful when interacting with social media. This is meant to assist Student Leaders in balancing the utilization of media platforms with the potential conflicts of interest that may arise due to their involvement with their employment with the Athletics Department.
  • Student Leaders' performance will be evaluated by their direct supervisor periodically throughout the term. Substandard performance may lead to disciplinary action. Student Leaders are expected to communicate any feedback regarding performance with the Senior Coordinator of Athletic Recreation Engagement

Academics/Workload

  • The VU REC intern position should be the first non-academic priority.
  • Student Leaders must be enrolled as a full-time student but in no more than 16 units without written approval from supervisor.
  • Student Leaders shall maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • VU REC Intern shall remain in good standing with chapel requirements.

COMPENSATION:

This is an hourly role, 5-10 hours/per week at a rate of $16.00/hour.
