Our summer internship program immerses each intern in an interactive, project-based work environment. Over the span of three months, interns will participate in an in-depth orientation week, facility tours, Leadership Speaker Series Q&A panel, community service activities, baseball games, and beach bashes—all crafted to invest in our interns’ personal and professional development. R&D Intern

The R&D Intern will assist in supporting development of medical device products through project work focused on verifying specifications, designs, fixtures, test processes, equipment and helping to ensure the concepts and/or prototypes meet their requirements. Typical degrees include:
 
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Biomechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Data Science/Analytics
  • Materials Sciences
  • Computer Sciences
  • Chemistry

Typical Duties might include:
 
  • R&D project involvement
  • Device design and process development
  • Device flow model bench and physical attribute testing
  • Data analysis and test report write-ups
  • Fixture designs
  • Development of documentations
  • Case Studies Support
  • Risk Management

  1. Working toward a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, Materials, Biomedical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or other related disciplines. 
  1. Creative, inquisitive and demonstrates a strong desire to “build” and “create” (i.e. robotics, mechanical repair, construction). 
  1. Demonstrated experience reading & preparing technical documentation. 
  1. Computer experience and skills including MS Word, Excel and CAD. 
 
Desired Qualifications 
  1. Strong analytical capability and organization skills 
  1. Coursework in 2-D/3-D drawings 
  1. Knowledge of SolidWorks 
  1. Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and autonomously. 
  1. Knowledge of medical device materials and processes: adhesives, plastics/polymers, metals, laser-welding, laser-cutting, braiding, and lamination. 
  1. Machine shop experience

  • The primary work location for this position is Aliso Viejo, CA (company headquarters). 
  • Relocation may be available for qualified candidates.
