Finance & Data Analytics Intern


Position Summary

This hands-on internship provides the opportunity to lead pending long-term data analysis projects related to expense & vendor analysis, accounting/P&L entry validation, reporting process improvement, data requirement and gathering assessments. With specified projects in place, the Finance & Data Analytics Intern will gain significant experience and be exposed to the integral connection between qualitative and quantitative data and how it relates to strategic finance initiatives.


Role Description

The Moors & Cabot Summer Internship Program provides current college students the ability to gain practical experience within the Financial Services industry. This summer will be filled with meaningful work experiences, networking, professional development, and engaging firm-sponsored events. You'll have the opportunity to work with senior leaders and have unparalleled mentorship while supporting company-wide initiatives. At the conclusion of the program, you will present on projects accomplished and key learning takeaways to your peers and other team members of Moors & Cabot.


This full-time role reports to the Manager, Financial Analysis and Business Intelligence based out of our Boston Headquarters. Working hours are Monday - Friday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM EST on a hybrid schedule: at least 3 days in office and up to 2 days remote.



Role Responsibilities

General Analysis

  • Analyzing financial data reports to assist in making informed business decisions

  • P&L/Accounting entry analysis & validation

  • Intacct/Budget reporting software report building

  • Outside data requirements & gathering/outreach

Specific Project Analysis

  • Expense & AP reporting tool mastery coupled with analysis of cost reduction opportunities

  • Build and update financial models to forecast returns and the valuation of assets

  • Prepare and pitch commentary on P&L analysis and reporting to suggest areas of improvement

Data Team Exposure

  • Create Finance-specific reports using existing/new data sources 

  • Publish completed reports on Moors & Cabot’s Business Intelligence Platform (BIP)

  • Gain general education on data feeds, warehouse, SQL coding & reporting and how it relates to finance initiatives

Administrative 

  • Organize the Finance Department Google Drive and clean up unnecessary files

  • Conduct document file validation

  • Conduct consistency inspection and internal audit on Template Excel files to remove unnecessary documents

  • Provide support to the Finance, Data, and Strategic Initiatives Teams with daily work and special projects

  • Ability to handle a demanding and multifaceted workload

  • Attention to detail and consistency of report and report elements

  • Clarity and completeness of documentation

  • Completion of tactical projects


Minimum Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field

  • Previous work or classroom experience in one or more of the following: Finance, Accounting, Investments, Data Science, etc. 

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills

  • Experience with financial software and tools (Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint)

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and tasks


Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with data analytics tools and accounting softwares

  • Knowledge of SQL programming language


Compensation & Benefits 

  • This position has an hourly rate of $22.00
