Job Description

In this internship, the intern will conduct a survey on some aspects of Synthetic Aviation Fuel (SAF), which can be used in commercial airplanes.  The intern is expected to write a report summarizing the work and the findings from the study. To provide a quality experience for the intern, resources will be provided and time will be taken to ensure a basic understand of the relevant topics and concepts need to support this project. For this, the intern will be expected to do a substantial amount of reading, reach out and talk to industry stakeholders, and attend regular project meetings.

The intern will ask and answer several questions in this internship, including:

  • Assumptions for securing capital investment for a biorefinery (or petroleum refinery) which would manufacture SAF blendstock.
  • Type of financing mechanisms that can be used to secure capital for biorefineries.
  • Develop a generic financial model for a large airline.  Use the model to investigate the impact of fuel cost on ticket prices, factoring in corporate demand for SAF blendstock.

We envision that the intern will complete “deep dive” research on SAF funding mechanisms. This will require extensive internet research, and these searches will focus on difficulties and challenges with each type of funding, what companies are currently using, who are the companies paying for SAF, capital investments, how SAF is purchased, etc. The student intern will gain an in depth understanding of the Synthetic Aviation Fuel industry and its potential for success.

This internship can be conducted fully remotely from within US borders.
