Position Summary: The Internal Audit Senior has a key role in evaluating and enhancing ACIC’s internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) and ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404. This role performs audits and provides independent, objective assurance to support governance, risk management, and compliance objectives. The Internal Audit Senior works collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external auditors while adhering to auditing standards and fostering operational efficiency.


Note: This is a hybrid position that requires attendance each Monday and Wednesday at our St. Petersburg, FL office.


Typical Essential Duties:

Audit Planning and Execution

  • Plans and conducts audits and control testing over systems and processes, with a focus on Finance, IT, Underwriting, and Claims.
  • Executes internal audit activities aligned with the approved internal audit plan and in accordance with International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (IPPF).
  • Performs SOX and operational audits, including reviewing and following up on work performed by other internal audit personnel and co-sourcing resources.
  • Develops procedures, schedules, and programs to achieve audit objectives within specified timeframes and quality parameters.

Risk Assessment and Internal Controls

  • Analyzes business processes and controls to identify risks and recommend improvements to internal controls and operational efficiencies.
  • Assists in identifying risks and changes to the system of internal controls as business processes evolve.
  • Updates and maintains internal control documentation, identifying key controls and ensuring they remain relevant.

Reporting and Communication

  • Provides clear and concise reports on audit findings and testing results for communication to the Audit Committee and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Monitors progress against deadlines and proactively communicate updates, obstacles, and issues to management as needed.

Standards and Compliance

  • Consistently adheres to auditing standards, regulatory requirements, and performance criteria.
  • Supports SOC 1 and SOC 2 audits of service providers by applying audit methodologies and testing reliance on these reports.

Collaboration and Relationship Building

  • Fosters productive relationships with management, promoting a culture of innovation, transparency, and accountability.
  • Collaborates across departments to support process improvements and strengthen the internal control environment.

Support and Development

  • Assists with the preparation and execution of test plans, process documentation, and change control testing across business units. Encourages a professional growth mentality within the team by fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensures all sensitive and confidential information is handled appropriately and in compliance with company policies.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonable within the scope of this role.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assists in overseeing the work of external professional service provider(s) engaged to assist the Internal Audit team execute their annual audit plan.

Requirements


Requirements and Competencies

  • Education/Licensure: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent required. Master’s degree in accounting, MBA, or related preferred. 
  • Professional Credentials: CPA, CISA, and/or CIA certifications strongly preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience in public accounting, auditing, or designing and implementing controls at a public company or insurance company. Public accounting or SEC reporting experience strongly preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of the Education and Experience requirements listed above.


Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of internal control framework (COSO).
  • In-depth knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 requirements.
  • Ability to build relationships with colleagues while maintaining independence.
  • Proven experience applying analytical and problem-solving skills when participating in or managing audits of varying sizes and complexities.
  • Demonstrated success in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal expertise, with an emphasis on the use of tact, patience, courtesy, and collaboration.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of programs and the ability to learn various internal and/or proprietary software packages; advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.

Physical

  • Position typically requires reaching, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. 
  • Sedentary Work: The duties most often are considered Sedentary Work include exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Salary Description
Proposed Base Pay Range: $86K–$98K plus bonus
