This is a limited term, part-time internship in the Community Partnerships section of the library. This position is an opportunity to understand and gain experience practicing community-engaged librarianship. The intern will advance library programs and community partnerships. Candidates must be pursuing education in Library and Information Science, with preference given to those pursuing a Master’s in Library and Information Science. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Community Partnerships supervisor. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Meet regularly with the Community Partnerships supervisor and staff
Observe library operations, engage in library training, and conduct self-directed learning exercises
Represent the Appleton Public Library in programs and community outreach events
Advance Community Partnerships section efforts through coordination and facilitation of library programs and partnerships
Collaborate with library staff and assist with section goals as needed
Maintain regular punctual and predictable attendance
Typical Qualifications
Must possess the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
Desire in gaining new knowledge/concepts
Basic digital literacy and technology skills, including a working knowledge of computers, Internet, and Microsoft Office
Basic communication skills (including oral, written, and listening skills)
Ability to work independently
Ability to ask for help or guidance when needed
Ability to interact with diverse range of community members
Ability to work as a team member
Ability to stand or sit for several hours; conducting outreach as needed
Ability to lift at least 30 lbs.; moving outreach equipment as needed
Spanish or Hmong language proficiency is a plus
Supplemental Information
This position will include a 10 hour per week schedule. The position will not exceed 136 hours.
